October Sales

Our last book sale sure did move a lot of paperbacks! We estimate that we sold over 600 paperbacks that day. Thanks to all who stopped by.

Our October book sale will be this Saturday Oct. 4 from 10 AM to 2 PM. All nonfiction books will be 25% off during the sale. Please stop by - we have a number of nonfiction books including titles dealing with history, travel, biography and autobiography, self help, sports and gardening.

A Book Sale and A Craft Sale

The Friends have been busy this summer preparing for a table at the Hawley fair at the Park this Saturday, Sept. 13th. We have many homemade items for sale and hope you will stop by to say "hi".

We also will be having a book sale at the Library - lower level. All paperback fiction books will be 5 books for $1. This sale will be Saturday, Sept. 13 during the hours of 10 AM to 2 PM. So you can stop at the Park as well as visit us at the Library. A great way to shop! Hope to see you Saturday.

Our End of Summer sale

Unfortunately, the large sign we usually put out on the front lawn was not available so the traffic we got for our sale Saturday was smaller than usual. We did make $110 from sales and than all of you for checking us out. We will be having another sale September 13th. Please check back next week for further information.
We took a video of the books on the shelves and I'm attempting to send it to the blog. We wanted you all to see how many books we have. Please let us know what you think of the video.

Summer Sale

We will have a "Summer Sale" on Saturday August 23rd starting at 10:00 AM and finishing around 2:00 PM. Hard back and paper back books will again be 50% off at that time. We have many new books for sale - so if you were at our last sale, there are new books you haven't seen yet.
We also have VHS tapes and audio books - these are NOT at a reduced price but are for sale at a very low price.
We also take donations that are in good condition. These can be left at the library desk.
Thank you for your support - the more books we sell the more we, The Friends of the Hawley Public Library, can support the library.

Book Sale August 2 2008

We have been fortunate to have many non fiction books donated recently. As you can see, our shelves are overflowing.
We will be holding a sale Saturday August 2 from 10 AM to 2 PM
All paperback and hard cover books will be 50% off their marked price!!!

Non fiction books are arranged by topic. Topics include travel, history, biography, religion, gardening, crafts, sports, philosophy, self help, cooking, health and parenting.

We also have many fiction books. Here you can see our large print section. Hardcover fiction is shelved by author's last name. We also have numerous paperback books.

50% off is only good on Saturday August 2 from 10 AM to 2 PM. So stop by and get some books for your August reading pleasure.

Paperback Book Sale in July

We had such a success at our last book sale we are having another this Saturday, July 12th from 10 AM to 2 PM. We have numerous fiction paperback books that are on sale 2 for $1.00. We also have many (well over 100) VHS tapes that are all priced at $1.00 per tape. So come on down to the Hawley Library and join us for a cool book sale. We will only have this sale on Saturday 10 to 2 - don't miss it!! Hope to see you there.

Another Book Sale

We are having another Book Sale Saturday, June 14th. We are open 10 to 4 and during that time all fiction paper back books will be sold two for $1. That's a GREAT deal... so, come on over to the Library and check out our books. At the same time you may want to stop at the park to see the variety of crafts for sale. What a great way to get some summer reading and also support the Friends of the Hawley Library.

Trips canceled

Due to the lack of reservations, we are forced to cancel our two trips to the Forestburgh Playhouse. Thanks to those that had responded.

Our Book Sale

We want to thank everyone who came to our book sale. We sold over 500 books at some really great prices. For that one day we sold all paperbacks at 3 for $1. It seemed we were busy all day long and at the end of the day had made nearly $300. We will be having more book sales so be sure to check back after Memorial Day for the next date.

Trips to the Forestburgh Playhouse

The Friends are sponsoring two trips to the Forestburgh Playhouse.

Forever Plaid is a musical comedy about “The Plaids” a classic 1950s all-male singing group. Songs from the 1950s including “Catch a Falling Star” added to the harmonies, choreography and humor will provide you with an enjoyable nostalgic musical. We will be going on Sunday, June 22 departing from the Hawley Library at 1:15 PM. Tickets are $50 per person. Checks should be made out to The Friends of the Hawley Public Library. We suggest that you either have an early lunch or bring a sandwich or snack to eat on the bus.

Cabaret is the second trip to the playhouse on Wednesday, July 9 departing from the IGA Hawley parking lot at 11:15 AM. On this trip we will start with lunch at the Tavern which is located next to the playhouse. We should be eating at 12:30. Lunch is a buffet which includes a garden salad, chicken, fish or vegetable pasta entree, desserts and beverages. Alcohol is extra. Following lunch we will go to the playhouse to enjoy Cabaret a dazzling musical set in 1929 Berlin on the eve of the Nazi takeover. Tickets, which include the lunch as well as the show, are $65 per person. Again, please make out checks to The Friends of the Hawley Public Library.

If you are interested, please call 226-1567 for reservations. There are NO refunds, however efforts will be made to maintain a substitute list. Should you need to use this, it is your responsibility to facilitate the resale of your ticket.

We have HOW many books for sale????

We have been fortunate to have received two very large donations (20+ boxes) of books over the past two weeks and we have been busy pricing and putting them out. And just what do we have for sale, you ask?

• 1,550 hard cover fiction - many are or were best sellers. We have of books by Carol Higgins Clark, Danielle Steele, John Grisham and Dean Koontz to name a few.
• 640 non fiction hardcover books on a variety of topics including biographies, history, travel, cook books, self-help, sports, reference and religion.
• 1,800 paperbacks including many that we just received. A large number of these are romance - historical and modern.
• 50+ audio books many removed from the library's shelves.
• 75 video including those for children.
• Young adult and children's books

And how do we know this???? We counted them!

We have books for sale!

We have many books for sale. The shelves are located in the lower level of the Hawley Library.
Several of our new books are displayed standing up. Looking ahead you can see the fiction section of our hardcovers. Behind these shelves is another set of shelves holding our non-fiction books. It is amazing how many current books and popular authors we have for sale. Many of our books are priced at $1.00.

We gained some additional space recently and have many of our paperbacks displayed here. Above the paperbacks you can see more of our fiction books as well as one of our cookbooks. Over the past few weeks we have received many "gently used" romance paperbacks that are looking for a new home! Please stop by the Library and visit the lower level book store. With a large variety of books you are sure to find several that match your reading pleasure - and you help support the library as well.

Book Sale News

Did you know that we have books on sale every day the library is open? Books are located in the lower level of the library. We have several shelves of books - paperback and hard back fiction and non-fiction. We also have VHS tapes and audio books. You can browse through the books and take your selection to either the children's check out located on the lower level or the main desk located on the main level.

We will be having a SALE on Saturday, April 5th 10 AM to 4 PM. All books (hardcover and paperback) will be 50% off. We have a large selection of books that are all reasonably priced.
