For the fifth consecutive year, the Friends of Hawley Public Library presented the library with a donation of $5,000. The Friends raise funds for the library through sales of used books; an annual birthday tribute to Helen Decker Blough, one of the founders of the Hawley Library; gold sales; and other fundraising events. Past donations from the Friends have been used to purchase computers, furniture, copy machines, and other equipment. Library Director Maura Rottmund said, "The library is grateful for the work of the Friends and their generous contributions, especially in these economically challenging times." Ms. Rottmund added that this year's donation will focus on computers and technology. It's a GOLD PARTY August 24 2011
While it's been a bit since this blog has been updated, The Friends of the Hawley Library have been very busy. Our main fundraiser this year has been our monthly book sales.
Our next event is a GOLD PARTY - something new for us. On Wednesday, August 24th from 5 to 7 at the library we are holding a gold, silver and old coin buying party. Light refreshments will be served. Items that will be evaluated include gold jewelry, silver coins (old) sterling silver pieces such as silver ware and silver jewelry. So take a look around for that single earring or class ring you haven't worn since you graduated from high school. Gold prices have risen to unexpected highs so now is the time to see just what that gold and silver is worth. A portion of the buyers commission will be donated to the Friends of the Library. We hope to see you!
